The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, has paid profound tribute to the police officers who sacrificed their lives during the nation’s Liberation War.
On Thursday morning at 10:00 am, IGP Fakir visited the Police Memorial at Rajarbagh Police Lines to lay a floral wreath in honour of the martyred officers. The ceremony was attended by senior police officials, who joined the IGP in observing a moment of solemn respect for the fallen heroes.
In his remarks, the IGP emphasised the enduring legacy of the police personnel who fought valiantly during the Liberation War, describing their courage as a source of inspiration for current and future members of the force. “Their sacrifices remind us of the values of integrity, dedication, and patriotism that continue to guide the Bangladesh Police,” he said.
This act of homage comes a day after Md. Ali Hossain Fakir formally assumed office as the nation’s chief police officer on Wednesday morning. His appointment marks a new chapter in leadership for the Bangladesh Police, and he has expressed a strong commitment to upholding the principles of honour, accountability, and public service.
The visit to the Police Memorial also included a brief briefing on the historical significance of the site and a review of ongoing initiatives to preserve the memory of the martyrs. Officials noted that the memorial serves as a central point for commemorating the police personnel who laid down their lives in 1971, a gesture that reinforces the force’s dedication to its historical roots.
