Real Madrid suffered a significant blow to their La Liga title ambitions last night, falling 1–0 at home to Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu. Earlier, on Saturday, Barcelona had secured a convincing 4–1 victory over Villarreal, extending their lead over Madrid to four points. A win against Getafe could have reduced the gap to a single point, but Real failed to capitalise, leaving their championship hopes under considerable pressure.
This marks Real Madrid’s second consecutive league defeat, following a 2–1 loss to Osasuna, and the first time since 2020 that they have lost back-to-back matches in La Liga. For Getafe, it was a historic triumph—their first victory at the Bernabéu since 2008.
With Kylian Mbappé sidelined due to a knee injury and currently undergoing treatment in France, Madrid has struggled in his absence, losing both of their last two league fixtures. The team’s vulnerability was ruthlessly exploited by Getafe’s Uruguayan forward Martín Satriano, who scored a spectacular opener in the 39th minute. This goal proved decisive, ultimately handing Getafe the three points.
Madrid’s evening worsened with disciplinary issues. In added time, midfielder Franco Mastantuono received a straight red card following an on-field altercation, compounding the team’s frustration. Throughout the match, Real appeared disorganised, lacking clear tactical cohesion, while Getafe dominated the contest.
After the match, coach Álvaro Arbeloa stated, “Certainly, we could have performed better, but the players gave their all. We created more clear-cut opportunities than they did, but unfortunately, it didn’t go our way.”
| Team | Matches Played | Points | Recent Form (Last 5) |

| Barcelona | 26 | 64 | W-W-W-L-W |
| Real Madrid | 26 | 60 | L-L-W-W-L |
Looking ahead, Real travel to Celta Vigo this Friday in the league before facing Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League Round of 16. Mbappé’s participation in these crucial fixtures remains uncertain. Nevertheless, Arbeloa emphasised resilience: “No one here gives up. This is Real Madrid. The fight continues until the final match. We can overcome the four-point gap, and we will keep fighting.”
