Afra Ivnat Ikra, spouse of popular Dhaka-based television actor Jaher Alvi, tragically ended her life at her Mirpur residence on 28 February 2026. Family members and close associates have attributed her suicide to Alvi’s extramarital relationship and prolonged psychological abuse.
Her father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed a formal complaint at Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka on the Sunday following the incident. The case names Jaher Alvi as the primary accused and his mother, Nasrin Sultana Shiuli, as the second accused. Ikra’s maternal uncle, Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed, confirmed the authenticity of the incident to local media.
Ikra and Jaher Alvi married in 2013 following a period of courtship. They share a five-year-old son. Despite the marriage, family members report that Ikra endured psychological abuse and sustained domestic pressures from the outset.
Approximately two years prior to her death, Ikra discovered that her husband was involved in an extramarital relationship. According to her family, this revelation led to escalating conflicts and tension within the marriage.
The filed complaint alleges repeated mental and emotional harassment from both Jaher Alvi and his mother. Reports suggest that Alvi frequently posted disparaging comments about Ikra on social media. On 27 February, he reportedly shared a photograph with another woman, intensifying Ikra’s emotional distress.
Family members insist that years of humiliation, provocation, and emotional abuse culminated in Ikra taking her own life.
On 28 February, Nasrin Sultana reportedly informed Ikra’s uncle, S.M. Zayed Al Fattah, that Ikra had hanged herself in her room using a scarf. She was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Police from Pallabi Station subsequently inspected the scene and arranged for a post-mortem examination.
