A tragic incident in Nilphamari’s Jaldhaka upazila has left the local community in shock after the body of a 13-year-old schoolboy was discovered in a paddy field a day after he had been reported missing. The deceased, identified as Mominur Rahman, was found on Saturday (28 March) in a field adjacent to the residence of a local ward member in the Kathali Union area.
According to police and local accounts, the body was recovered from a paddy field near Ward No. 3 of Kathali Union, close to the home of a local representative identified as Hamidul Member. Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene after villagers spotted the body lying in the field and immediately informed Jaldhaka Police Station. The police subsequently recovered the body and transported it to the police station for further procedures.
Mominur Rahman, aged 13, was the son of Alamgir Hossain from the Bogulagari Dhangapara village. He was a student of Class Seven at Bogulagari High School. His untimely death has deeply affected his family, classmates, and the wider community, many of whom described him as a quiet and studious boy.
Family sources stated that on Friday afternoon, Mominur left home riding his father’s battery-powered van, reportedly heading towards the Jaldhaka area. However, he did not return home afterwards. His family began searching for him in nearby areas but could not locate him. The following morning, they were informed that a body had been discovered in a nearby paddy field. Upon reaching the site, relatives identified the deceased as Mominur Rahman.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. While the police have confirmed the recovery of the body, they have not yet provided any definitive conclusion regarding the cause of death. Authorities have stated that an investigation is underway, and legal proceedings are being initiated as part of a suspected murder case. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Local residents have expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that such occurrences are highly unusual in the area, which is generally considered peaceful. Many have called for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible, if any, are brought to justice swiftly.
Law enforcement officials have assured that all possible angles are being examined and that further action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report and ongoing inquiry.
