The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has issued a directive ordering the removal of banners, festoons and signboards placed on city walls and other locations. The instruction was announced in a public notice released on Tuesday (2 November).
According to the notice, various banners, festoons, posters and election campaign materials, along with advertisements and signboards on privately owned structures, have recently been installed in the DSCC area without official approval. Such activities violate the ‘Control of Wall Writing and Poster Installation Act, 2012’. To build a clean and aesthetically pleasant city, all organisations, individuals or institutions are requested to voluntarily remove all unauthorised banners, festoons, posters, advertisements, signboards and election materials. Failing to do so will result in legal action being taken against the responsible parties.
On 16 November, a special report titled ‘Dhaka Now the City of Posters and Banners’ was published by a news outlet. Two days later, on the same date, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) issued a notice instructing that all illegally placed banners, festoons and posters in its jurisdiction be removed within seven days. Today, the DSCC has issued a similar public announcement on the matter.
