The trouble began even before the humiliating 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League, a match that left the Catalan giants reeling. In recent weeks, Araujo’s mistakes at the back had come under intense scrutiny, with mounting criticism piling pressure on the Uruguayan international. He described the defender’s condition as “delicate” and emphasised the unprecedented uncertainty surrounding his future, which has taken the club by surprise.

The priority is clear: mental health comes before football.
