The ancestral home of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a gunshot victim in Dhaka, was reportedly burgled on Friday night. The house is located in Ward No. 4 of the municipal area in Nolchiti, Jhalokathi. The incident was confirmed by Ariful Alam, officer-in-charge of Nolchiti Police Station.
OC Ariful Alam stated that no family members were present in the house at the time of the burglary. It is suspected that the intruders broke a window to gain entry. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and initiated a preliminary investigation. They are speaking with family members and legal proceedings are underway.
Neighbour Golam Kibria Riaz reported seeing two individuals near the back of Hadi’s house early in the morning while he was leaving for prayers. When he challenged them, they fled the scene.
Meanwhile, Jannati Akter, another neighbour responsible for checking the house, said she found cash wrapped in a towel lying outside the house in the morning. She immediately informed her elder sister, Fatema Begum, who upon entering the house, noticed a broken cupboard. The family confirmed that the intruders stole the cash that was inside the cupboard.
Hadi’s cousin, Sirajul Islam, stated, “Taking advantage of the absence of family members, the intruders broke a window to enter the house. The exact amount or value of the items stolen is not yet confirmed.”
It is worth noting that earlier on Friday, around 2:15 pm, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in front of the water tank in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. He was returning from a mosque in Motijheel after campaigning and heading for lunch with colleagues at Suhrawardy Udyan in a battery-powered rickshaw. While in transit, a gunman on a motorcycle fired at him, hitting his head.
Following the shooting, Hadi was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After undergoing brain surgery, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital in the Bashundhara residential area, where he is currently under intensive care in the ICU. Doctors have stated that his condition remains critical.
Hadi’s family reportedly left for Dhaka on the day of the shooting upon receiving news of the attack, to be closer to him during his treatment and recovery.
The police continue their investigation into the burglary while monitoring the situation closely, ensuring that all necessary legal and procedural steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
