Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore has faced legal trouble in India for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Last Friday (6 December), the Allahabad High Court rejected her anticipatory bail petition, raising the possibility of her arrest at any moment.
The Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh dismissed Neha Singh Rathore’s application for anticipatory bail.
The controversy began after Neha blamed Prime Minister Modi for the Pahalgam attack. Following her remarks, multiple cases were filed against her across various districts of Lucknow. To avoid legal complications, the singer had sought anticipatory bail in court.
Earlier this year, in April, Neha had held the central government and the Prime Minister responsible for the attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
She had questioned, “What should I ask the government? Issues like education and healthcare no longer receive attention. At a time when nationalism and Hindu-Muslim division are at a peak, people are losing their lives. Should I then ask Muhammad Ali Jinnah instead of the government? The central government is biased based on religion. The country is running on the basis of caste and religion.”
Her comments sparked widespread controversy, and government supporters initiated legal action against her.
Defending her statements, Neha Singh Rathore insisted that as a citizen of a free country, she has the right to question the government over security failures. She stressed that she was highlighting the failure to ensure tourist safety in Pahalgam and had not performed any provocative songs, merely asked questions. However, the court has kept the legal process open by denying her bail for now.
