Sudden Death at Fuel Station Queue

A 50-year-old farmer died after collapsing while waiting at a petrol station in Khanasama upazila of Dinajpur district, Bangladesh, in an incident that occurred during a period of heavy congestion at the site.

The deceased, identified as Masud Rana, was the son of Mofiz Uddin and a resident of the Sathi Para area of Darowani in Sonaray Union under Nilphamari Sadar upazila. He had travelled to the filling station by motorcycle to collect fuel.

The incident took place on Monday at approximately 5:00 pm at the Umar Faruq Filling Station, located adjacent to the Chowrongi market area in Khanasama upazila. According to eyewitness accounts, a long queue had formed at the station, with at least 200 motorcycles waiting for fuel prior to the arrival of a fuel tanker. The tanker reached the station at around 4:30 pm, after which fuel distribution began.

Masud Rana was reportedly standing near the entrance of the petrol station with his motorcycle rather than in the main queue when he suddenly experienced dizziness and fell to the ground. People present at the scene immediately assisted him and transported him by van to the Khanasama Upazila Health Complex in the Pakarhat area for emergency medical attention.

On arrival at the health facility, attending medical staff confirmed that he was already dead. The confirmation was provided by Community Medical Officer Mahfuz Al Mamun Siddiki, who stated that the patient had been brought in deceased.

Following the incident, Khanasama Police Station took necessary steps after being informed at approximately 5:15 pm. The Officer-in-Charge, Abdul Baset Sardar, confirmed that police personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after receiving the report. He further stated that the deceased’s relatives later collected the body and that no formal complaint had been lodged in connection with the incident.
