Two men have been arrested in Natore after the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) allegedly caught them transporting heroin using a concealed method, with 105 grams of the narcotic recovered during the operation.
The raid was conducted at around 9.30pm on Wednesday in front of Asad Computer shop on the paved road connecting South Bargachha Boro Mor with Chhoto Mor in Ward 8 of Natore Municipality, under Natore Sadar police station.
The arrested men have been identified as Md Sakibur Rahman Sakib, 38, son of Md Aktar of Alipur Mahishalbari in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi, and Md Mintu Akand, 43, son of Badiuzzaman Akand of Ratanpur Jorpukuria in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat.
According to RAB-5’s Natore camp under CPC-2, the operation was launched after the force received intelligence about suspected narcotics activity in the area. RAB personnel intercepted the two men and questioned them over their movements.
During the questioning, Sakibur Rahman allegedly admitted that he was carrying heroin concealed inside his body. RAB subsequently recovered 105 grams of heroin from his rectum in the presence of witnesses, according to the force.
RAB said the recovery was made as part of the search conducted following the admission. The unusual method allegedly used to conceal the narcotic highlights the lengths to which drug traffickers may go to evade detection while moving illegal substances from one place to another.
During preliminary questioning, Sakibur reportedly told RAB that he had collected the heroin from a drug dealer known as ‘Roni’. He allegedly travelled to Natore carrying the narcotic through the concealed method with the intention of handing it over to Mintu Akand.
The exact role of each of the two men in the alleged transaction will be subject to further legal proceedings and investigation. Their statements during preliminary questioning will also be examined as part of the case.
Following the operation, the seized heroin was taken into custody and the two men were handed over to Natore Sadar police station along with the recovered narcotics.
Legal action against them is being processed under the country’s narcotics control law, RAB said. The authorities are expected to proceed with the case in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.
The operation comes as law-enforcement agencies continue to conduct intelligence-led drives against the transportation and distribution of illegal narcotics. In such cases, investigators generally seek to establish not only the immediate circumstances surrounding a seizure but also the source of the narcotics and whether other individuals were involved in the alleged supply chain.:::
