Two men died in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur after mistakenly consuming poisonous gas tablets used to kill rats, believing them to be gastric medicine. The incident occurred on Sunday (7 December) afternoon in Baniapara village under Parramrampur Union.

The deceased were identified as Kanku Mia (50), son of late Mokjol Hossain of the area, and Md Kamal Mia (48) of Porabhita village in the same union. The two were related as brothers-in-law.

According to family members and local sources, both men accidentally swallowed the toxic tablets after mistaking them for medicine for gastric problems. They fell ill shortly afterwards and were taken to the upazila health complex.

As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Kanku Mia died on the way to hospital around 10:00pm, while Kamal Mia died later the same night while undergoing treatment.

Dewanganj Model Police Station inspector (investigation) Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident and said the deaths occurred due to accidental consumption of poisonous tablets.
