Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and accomplished fingerstyle guitarist Tyler Ramsey has released his latest album, Celestun, marking a new chapter in his evolving musical journey. The project features special contributions from Carl Broemel, the celebrated guitarist of My Morning Jacket, with whom Ramsey shares a long-standing creative friendship. Musically, the album blends modern folk and indie rock with influences drawn from the folk traditions of western North Carolina’s mountainous regions, as well as the travels of itinerant country blues musicians.
Ramsey first gained recognition as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the critically praised band Band of Horses, contributing to three of their acclaimed albums:
| Album | Release Year | Contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Infinite Arms | 2010 | Lead guitar and songwriting |
| Mirage Rock | 2012 | Composition and collaborative input |
| Why Are You OK? | 2016 | Creative guidance and recording |
As a solo artist, Ramsey’s discography has earned praise for its emotional depth and technical finesse:
| Album | Release Year | Notable Comments |
|---|---|---|
| A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea | 2008 | Critically lauded debut |
| The Valley Wind | 2011 | Celebrated for modern folk stylings |
| For The Morning | 2019 | Recognised for its delicate, emotive approach |
| New Lost Ages | 2024 | Produced by Phil Ek; hailed as “Indie-folk gem” by Americana UK |
Initially conceived as an instrumental project, Celestun later incorporated vocals, including performances by the Grammy-nominated duo, The Secret Sisters. The album presents a diverse musical palette, featuring intricate compositions such as Nevermind and Flying Things, alongside a reinterpretation of Neil Young’s Sail Away. Critics have noted the album’s sonic sophistication, drawing comparisons to Clarence White, John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Bert Jansch, while praising its seamless blend of rustic acoustic textures and technical virtuosity.
Following a successful UK tour in November 2024, which included headline performances in London and support sets at Union Chapel, Ramsey is set to return to the UK for a spring 2026 tour:
