The United States Central Command has confirmed that three of its military jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwait’s air defence forces.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Central Command clarified that all six crew members aboard the aircraft survived the incident and were successfully rescued. Their medical condition has been reported as stable. Kuwait has acknowledged the event, corroborating the US account.
The incident has raised serious questions about regional military coordination and the protocols in place to prevent friendly-fire accidents. While the exact circumstances are still under investigation, officials emphasised that the safety of personnel remains the highest priority.
A Central Command spokesperson said, “The cause of the incident is under review. Full details will be released as soon as the investigation is complete.” Analysts suggest that heightened alert levels and recent tensions in the Gulf region may have contributed to the misidentification, although this remains speculative until the formal inquiry concludes.
The event underscores the risks inherent in densely monitored airspaces where multiple allied forces operate in close proximity. Military experts highlight that even advanced identification systems can fail under stress or miscommunication, making stringent coordination essential.
