Acting on a confidential tip-off, a detective squad led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Atiqur Rahman conducted a targeted anti-narcotics raid late on Wednesday night in the Bhatara East Para area. Officers intercepted Shah Alam in the courtyard of his residence and caught him red-handed with the illicit synthetic drugs. The arrestee is the son of the late Gias Uddin, a resident of the same village.

Detective Branch officials stated that Shah Alam has been involved in drug consumption and local trafficking for a considerable period. According to law enforcement records, he already faces several previous criminal charges related to narcotics offences in the region.

The arrest of a political office-bearer has drawn significant attention across the local political landscape. Addressing the incident, Anisur Rahman, president of the Bhatara Union Juba Dal, clarified that the organization would not take responsibility for any individual’s criminal misconduct. He confirmed that a formal application has been submitted to the Upazila Juba Dal leadership requesting Shah Alam’s immediate expulsion from the party for breaching organizational discipline.

Following the seizure, police registered a fresh case against the suspect under the Narcotics Control Act at Sarishabari Police Station. Shah Alam was subsequently produced before the magistrate under police escort and remanded to jail. Police authorities added that targeted anti-drug drives will continue across Sarishabari upazila to curb illicit narcotics trade.
