In a significant administrative move, Bangladesh’s interim government has constituted a high-level committee to examine and provide recommendations on salary-related matters outlined in multiple official pay commission reports. The decision aims to ensure a coordinated approach towards finalising pay structures across the public and armed sectors.
The committee has been tasked with scrutinising the reports submitted by the National Pay Commission 2025, the Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission 2025, and the Armed Forces Pay Committee 2025. Following a detailed review, the committee will formulate recommendations for government consideration, with the goal of aligning remuneration policies with the prevailing economic and institutional requirements.
The newly formed committee is chaired by the Secretary of the Cabinet Division and includes senior officials from key ministries and departments, reflecting the breadth of expertise required for such a complex review. Members include: the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Secretary of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Secretary of the Health Services Division, Secretary of the Law and Justice Division, and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of Bangladesh based in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
The committee is expected to perform a meticulous examination of salary structures and related recommendations in the submitted reports. Its mandate includes not only reviewing proposed pay scales but also evaluating their feasibility, alignment with national fiscal priorities, and long-term sustainability. Upon completion of its review, the committee will submit a comprehensive report to the government outlining proposed next steps.
The structure of the committee and its primary functions are summarised below:
| Committee Name | Chairperson | Members | Primary Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Pay Review Committee 2026 | Secretary, Cabinet Division | Senior Secretaries from Public Administration, Defence, Finance, Education, Health, Law & Justice, CAG | Examine salary-related matters in pay commission reports and provide recommendations to government |
| Reports Under Review | - | - | National Pay Commission 2025; Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission 2025; Armed Forces Pay Committee 2025 |
This initiative is seen as a crucial step in maintaining transparency and consistency in public sector and armed forces remuneration policies. It also reflects the interim government’s commitment to structured administrative processes, ensuring that pay revisions are evidence-based and systematically implemented across all sectors.
By bringing together senior policymakers and auditors, the committee is expected to provide well-substantiated recommendations that will guide future salary adjustments and contribute to broader fiscal and administrative reforms in Bangladesh.
