The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) conducted its undergraduate admission examination for the 2025–26 academic year on Saturday, drawing significant attention from aspiring engineers nationwide. A total of 9,051 candidates sat for the exam, competing for 1,309 available seats across 13 academic departments, highlighting the university’s continued reputation as the premier engineering institution in Bangladesh. The final merit list, including selected and waiting-list candidates, is expected to be published on 7 February 2026.
The examination was conducted in two modules to accommodate the diverse range of subjects. Module A covered engineering disciplines and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, while Module B included engineering departments, the Urban and Regional Planning Department, and the Department of Architecture.
According to BUET’s official statement, Module A exams were held from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, assessing ‘Group Ka’ and ‘Group Kha’ students in higher mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Later, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm, Module B exams were conducted for ‘Group Kha’ students, focusing on freehand drawing and spatial-visual intelligence, following an open syllabus approach.
The university reported a high attendance rate of 87.44%, with 10,351 eligible candidates initially shortlisted based on merit and correct applications. Among them, 7,644 were male and 2,707 female students.
BUET’s 13 departments will enrol students in faculties including Chemical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Architecture and Planning. This year, a total of four reserved seats have been allocated for ethnic minority students from the Chittagong Hill Tracts and other regions—three for engineering and urban planning (no more than one per department) and one for architecture.
