Renowned Bangladeshi actress Shahnaz Sumi has recently embarked on a new professional journey, joining BRAC’s Health Programme. Fresh from completing her graduation, Sumi has expressed excitement about contributing to one of the country’s leading organisations working on public health and community welfare.
Speaking about her new role, Sumi said, “I have joined BRAC’s Health Programme, an organisation deeply involved in various health-related initiatives across Bangladesh. Over the years, BRAC has consistently supported communities during natural disasters and other crises. Being part of such meaningful work gives me immense satisfaction.”
Sumi, known for her performances in films such as Mobaroknama and Ondhokarer Gaan, had originally planned to fully pursue a career in acting immediately after graduation. However, academic pressures compelled her to postpone her film projects. She explained, “I was supposed to start work on two films, but managing my studies alongside acting would have conflicted with my semester schedule. I felt it was important to complete my education first. Film offers will continue to come, and there is always time to pursue them. If my intentions remain firm, everything falls into place in life.”
Despite the demands of a full-time role at BRAC, Sumi intends to continue acting selectively. She shared her approach to balancing her dual careers, stating, “I never take on more than two projects a year. I prefer quality over quantity. Last year, I worked on Ondhokarer Gaan, and the year before that, Mobaroknama. If a suitable project comes my way this year, I will adjust my schedule accordingly. There’s no reason for conflict.”
Sumi’s new professional path reflects a growing trend among young artists in Bangladesh who seek to contribute meaningfully to society while maintaining creative pursuits. Her dedication highlights the importance of education, career planning, and social responsibility.
