DHAKA — Following a hard-fought recovery to secure a 2-1 victory in the One Day International (ODI) series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has introduced a novel performance incentive for the upcoming Twenty20 International (T20I) series against New Zealand. To stimulate high-level competitive performance and bolster player morale, the board has announced that top performers in the shortest format will be eligible to win high-value electronic vehicles.
The national squad is currently observing a three-day hiatus before resuming competitive duties on 27 April 2026. During this interval, it was confirmed that the standout Bangladeshi cricketer in each fixture of the three-match T20I series will be designated as the “Most Valuable Bangladeshi Player of the Match”.
The President of the BCB, Tamim Iqbal, confirmed that recipients of this accolade will be presented with an Eloop brand e-bike. Each vehicle is valued at approximately 290,000 Bangladeshi Taka. The primary objective of this initiative, as outlined by the governing body, is to incentivise elite performance, foster additional motivation on the field, and encourage a rigorous competitive spirit when representing the national side.
This move comes at a time when the BCB is seeking to solidify the team’s momentum following their successful turnaround in the ODI leg of the tour. The “Most Valuable Bangladeshi Player” award will be independent of the official “Player of the Match” award typically presented by the match organisers, ensuring that a domestic player is rewarded even in the event of a team defeat.
The incentive follows a dramatic ODI series where Bangladesh showcased significant resilience. The hosts suffered an initial setback, losing the opening fixture by 26 runs. In that encounter, New Zealand’s Dean Foxcroft was named Player of the Match for his half-century and a solitary wicket.
However, Bangladesh responded in the second match, securing a six-wicket victory to level the series. Fast bowler Nahid Rana was the architect of that win, claiming five wickets to earn the Player of the Match honours. In the series decider, Bangladesh triumphed by 55 runs, anchored by a commanding innings of 105 runs from Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was duly recognised for his contribution.
The BCB selection panel has already finalised the roster for the first two T20I fixtures, implementing several strategic changes. Most notably, the selection committee has granted a period of rest to senior pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, as well as the recent ODI standout Nahid Rana.
The squad sees the inclusion of the uncapped all-rounder Abdul Gaffar Saklain, who has received his maiden call-up to the senior national side following impressive performances in the domestic circuit. The captaincy remains with Litton Das, while Saif Hassan has been appointed as his deputy.
The confirmed Bangladesh T20I Squad is as follows:
Litton Das (Captain)
Saif Hassan (Vice-Captain)
Parvez Hossain Emon
Tanzid Hasan Tamim
Shamim Hossain
Towhid Hridoy
Nurul Hasan Sohan
Mahedi Hasan
Nasum Ahmed
Rishad Hossain
Shoriful Islam
Tanzim Hasan Sakib
Ripon Mondol
Mohammad Saifuddin
Abdul Gaffar Saklain
The T20I series will be contested over three matches, providing a platform for the younger elements of the squad to demonstrate their aptitude for the format ahead of the international calendar’s busier periods.
| Match | Date | Venue |
| 1st T20I | 27 April 2026 | Chattogram |
| 2nd T20I | 29 April 2026 | Dhaka |
| 3rd T20I | 2 May 2026 | Dhaka |
The integration of performance-based luxury rewards represents a growing trend in South Asian cricket, aimed at maintaining high intensity in bilateral series that are not part of major ICC tournaments. As the team prepares for the opener in Chattogram, the focus will be on whether the likes of Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan Tamim can translate this added incentive into a series-winning performance.
