Two college students lost their lives on Tuesday following a motorcycle accident in the Jalsiri area of the 300-foot Purbachal Expressway. The deceased have been identified as Rifat, aged 20, and Sabbir, aged 22. Both individuals were Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) level students and hailed from Shekerkandi village in the Bancharampur Upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
The accident occurred at midday while the two friends were travelling from Bancharampur to the capital, Dhaka. According to reports, as they reached the Jalsiri area within the Rupganj section of the 300-foot road, the rider lost control of the motorcycle. The loss of control resulted in a severe crash, leaving both occupants with life-threatening injuries.
Passersby at the scene acted quickly to rescue the injured students and facilitated their urgent transport to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Upon arrival, they were admitted to the One-Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC), where a team of medical professionals attempted to stabilise their condition.
Despite the medical intervention, both students succumbed to their injuries within hours of the accident. Rifat was the first to be pronounced dead by attending physicians at 5:10 pm. His companion, Sabbir, passed away shortly thereafter at approximately 6:15 pm.
The Inspector in charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, Mohammad Faruk, officially confirmed the fatalities. He stated that the bodies have been transferred to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death. Local authorities are expected to follow standard legal procedures before releasing the remains to the grieving families for burial in their ancestral village.

The 300-foot road, also known as the Purbachal Expressway, is a major arterial route connecting Dhaka with the eastern suburbs and nearby districts. While the road is noted for its modern design and width, it has frequently been the site of high-speed accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles.
Safety experts and local law enforcement have repeatedly highlighted the risks associated with high-speed motorcycling on this stretch, particularly for younger riders. This incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the necessity for strict adherence to traffic regulations and speed limits on the country’s expressways. The bodies remain at the DMCH morgue pending the completion of the autopsy and subsequent handover to the relatives.
