Bangladesh established a commanding position against Pakistan on the second day of the Sylhet Test match. At stumps, the hosts reached 110 runs for the loss of three wickets in their second innings. Combined with a crucial first-innings advantage, Bangladesh hold an overall lead of 156 runs with seven wickets remaining heading into the third day.
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a competitive total of 278 runs in their first innings. The cornerstone of the Bangladeshi innings was an exceptional century from wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das. His hundred rescued the team from potential trouble and ensured the hosts posted a defendable total on a surface offering assistance to both pace and spin.
In reply, Pakistan struggled to cope with a disciplined and varied Bangladeshi bowling attack. The visitors were bowled out for 232 runs, conceding a 46-run first-innings deficit to the hosts. The Pakistan batsmen faced persistent pressure from the raw pace of Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed, alongside the tactical spin variations of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
For Pakistan, former captain Babar Azam offered the sturdiest resistance, top-scoring with a well-compiled 68 runs. However, he lacked sustained support from the other end as the Bangladeshi bowlers took wickets at regular intervals to curtail the visitors’ progress.
| Bowler | Style | Wickets Taken |
| Nahid Rana | Right-arm Fast | 3 |
| Taijul Islam | Slow Left-arm Orthodox | 3 |
| Taskin Ahmed | Right-arm Fast-Medium | 2 |

With a 46-run first-innings lead intact, Bangladesh commenced their second innings aiming to set a formidable target. Opening batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided a solid foundation at the top of the order. Joy scored a brisk 52 runs off 64 deliveries, an innings punctuated by 10 boundaries, before being dismissed.
By the conclusion of the second day’s play, Bangladesh had progressed to 110 for 3 from their overs. With an aggregate lead of 156 runs, the home side remains well-positioned to dictate the terms of the match on day three.
