Three members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police were reportedly assaulted while conducting an operation in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila on Thursday afternoon, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at around 3:00 pm in the Gausia area of Rupganj when a four-member team from the South Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch travelled there to arrest an accused individual in connection with an ongoing case. The team consisted of Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun Matubbar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aman Ullah, Constable Kabir Ahmed and Constable Akash Ahmed.
Police officials stated that shortly after the officers arrived, a group of people allegedly associated with the suspect gathered at the scene and confronted the DB team. The situation quickly escalated, and three officers were reportedly attacked and beaten. The assailants are also alleged to have forced the injured officers into a pickup truck and transported them to Shantinagar Bazar in Uchitpura Union under neighbouring Araihazar upazila, where they were subjected to further assault.
Injured Officers Rescued
Following reports of the incident, personnel from Araihazar Police Station rushed to the location and rescued the injured officers. They were initially admitted to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex for treatment before being transferred to Dhaka for further medical care.

Conflicting Accounts
The incident has raised questions regarding coordination between law enforcement units operating in different jurisdictions.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sabjel Hossain of Araihazar Police Station confirmed that the injured officers were rescued and later sent to Dhaka for treatment. He added that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible and determine the sequence of events that led to the assault.
Meanwhile, Rupganj Police Station OC AHM Salauddin said he had no prior information that a Dhaka Metropolitan DB team was conducting an operation in the Bhulta-Gausia area. According to him, local police were not contacted by the visiting officers before the operation took place.
Providing another perspective, Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarek Al Mehdi said that the officers involved had arrived in the Bhulta area in plain clothes. He suggested that the absence of police uniforms may have contributed to public misunderstanding, leading to what he described as a hostile reaction from local people. He noted that police personnel from Sonargaon and Araihazar subsequently intervened and rescued the officers.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of those responsible for the attack or whether any arrests have been made. Investigators are expected to examine the operational procedures followed by the visiting DB team, including inter-agency communication and the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
The incident highlights the operational risks faced by law enforcement personnel during arrest drives and underscores the importance of effective coordination among police units when conducting operations outside their regular jurisdictions. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
