The former Information Minister and President of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad), Hasanul Haq Inu, has disclosed in court that he is maintaining written records of his ongoing legal cases inside two dedicated notebooks in prison. The statement has sparked a fresh round of debate within the court premises.
The disclosure was made on Monday (22 June 2026) before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter, during a hearing concerning a police application to show Inu arrested in an attempt-to-murder case registered at the Bangshal Police Station.
During the judicial proceedings, Hasanul Haq Inu asserted that he utilizes one red and one green notebook whilst in correctional custody to systematically document the progress of his cases, judicial directives, and the arguments presented by legal counsel during hearings.
The public prosecutor, Harun ur Rashid, confirmed the remarks, noting that the court had been formally appraised of how the defendant was archiving various dimensions of the ongoing litigation.
However, state lawyers argued that such remarks could imply an indirect attempt to exert pressure or pose a subtle threat to the judiciary. The prosecution has suggested that the statement warrants careful scrutiny to determine whether it constitutes contempt of court.
Furthermore, during the session, Inu lodged a formal complaint regarding being detained in the court lock-up for an extended duration prior to the hearing and delivered critical remarks concerning the operational conduct of the judiciary.
On the same day, the former minister and President of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, Rashed Khan Menon, was also produced before the same metropolitan magistrate’s court. The prosecution presented legal arguments supporting the police department’s formal petition to show Menon arrested under the same criminal charges. Following the submission, Menon addressed the court directly after obtaining permission from the bench. Upon concluding the arguments from both factions, Magistrate Nazmin Akter granted the state’s petition to record both political figures as formally arrested in connection with the Bangshal case.
According to the official case dossiers, the charges stem from an incident on 5 August 2024, when an individual identified as Mohammad Mokhlesin sustained gunshot wounds whilst participating in a procession at the Chankharpul intersection in the capital. Mokhlesin was subsequently admitted to the Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital for treatment. He later filed a formal attempt-to-murder lawsuit at the Bangshal Police Station on 1 January of the following year.
The verified parameters of the legal case and the administrative details from the court session are organized in the analytical table below:
