The Argentine Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marcelo Carlos Cesa, visited Dhaka University to watch the World Cup match between Argentina and Austria on a giant screen. Arriving at the Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall playground at around ten o’clock on Monday evening, the diplomat immersed himself in the vibrant atmosphere created by local football enthusiasts. Thousands of passionate supporters of the Argentine national team and talisman Lionel Messi gathered at the venue, transforming the campus into a sea of sky blue and white.
Overwhelmed by the intense support and rhythmic chanting of the crowd, Ambassador Cesa expressed his deep admiration for the local fan base. He remarked that the profound enthusiasm made him feel as though he were back in his home country. The diplomatic delegation witnessed firsthand how deeply embedded Argentine football culture has become within the social fabric of Bangladeshi youth, despite the vast geographical distance separating the two nations.
Although the high-stakes fixture in Dallas was scheduled to kick off at eleven o’clock in the evening, supporters began converging on the Muhsin Hall grounds as early as nine o’clock. To keep the gathering crowd entertained ahead of the match, the Muhsin Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organised a cultural programme featuring local music and performances. The collaborative event highlighted the unique intersection of sports, student life, and international camaraderie within the historic university grounds.
Ambassador Cesa was accompanied by a prominent group of Argentine dignitaries, cultural representatives, and media personalities who travelled to witness the phenomenon of Bangladeshi fandom. The visiting group included author and cultural envoy Dan Lande, popular social media influencer Ruli, and creative professionals Manuel Javier Ezcurra Ramon, Martin de Escalada, Martina Joy Gondell, and Santiago Conde. The presence of these delegates underscores the growing cultural and bilateral relationship between Argentina and Bangladesh, sparked largely by a shared love for football.
