Brigadier General Syed Mohammad Motaher Hosein, the Director General of Prisons (IG Prisons), has been officially withdrawn from his deputation role and reverted to the Armed Forces Division. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a formal notification to this effect on Wednesday, 19 August, confirming the termination of his public service assignment within the prison administration.
According to the official circular, Brigadier General Hosein has been released from his current executive assignment to facilitate his immediate return to military service. Reliable sources within the administration indicate that his return aligns with a major new diplomatic posting abroad. Following government approval, he has been designated as the Advisor to the Defence Wing at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York.
Brigadier General Hosein originally assumed the position of Inspector General of Prisons on 11 August 2024. Having completed two years at the helm of the Directorate of Prisons, his tenure saw the oversight of critical correctional reforms, security protocols, and administrative restructuring across the national prison network. Senior officials within the prison service noted that his transition back to the armed forces represents a standard administrative repatriation following a period of deputation.
His upcoming assignment at the United Nations places him at the centre of Bangladesh’s military diplomacy on the global stage. As the Defence Wing Advisor, Brigadier General Hosein will be responsible for coordinating strategic defence matters, facilitating international security dialogue, and representing the nation’s peacekeeping contributions at UN headquarters.
The Ministry of Public Administration has yet to announce a successor for the top post at the Directorate of Prisons. Official procedures for Brigadier General Hosein’s formal return to the Bangladesh Army and subsequent departure for New York are set to begin immediately.
