Ashes Concert Cancelled Over Crowd Concerns

The much-anticipated concert by the popular band Ashes, scheduled to take place on Saturday (18 April) at Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, has been cancelled at the last moment. The decision was confirmed by the band’s vocalist, Junaed Evan.

In a post published late on Friday night (17 April) from his verified Facebook account, Evan stated that the event would no longer proceed as planned. He wrote that the organisers had raised concerns over crowd management at the open-air venue, anticipating attendance levels that would be impossible to control.

According to the statement, the primary concern was the expected turnout, which organisers believed would exceed manageable limits for an open venue of this type. The limitations of the space, combined with safety and logistical considerations, ultimately contributed to the cancellation decision. Evan also referenced administrative concerns, noting that authorities had indicated potential difficulties, particularly in relation to traffic management in the surrounding areas.

The cancellation has disappointed many fans who were anticipating the event, especially given Ashes’ recent active performance schedule. However, the organisers and the band emphasised that the decision was made in consideration of public safety and regulatory advice.

Junaed Evan also addressed fans directly in his post, expressing regret over the cancellation while suggesting that future opportunities to meet and perform would arise elsewhere. His message conveyed that while the Rabindra Sarobar event would not take place, the band expected to reconnect with audiences at other venues in the future.

Beyond the cancelled concert, Ashes has maintained a busy performance schedule. Since the beginning of the current month until Friday (17 April), the band has reportedly performed at 12 concerts across Dhaka and various other parts of Bangladesh.

Looking ahead, Ashes is also expected to continue its international engagements. The band has scheduled performances in Europe, with concerts planned in Rome and Venice in Italy, as well as in Paris, France, in June.

While the cancellation of the Rabindra Sarobar event marks a setback for local fans, the band’s ongoing domestic and international tour schedule indicates continued activity in the coming months.
