In a brazen early-morning incident, armed assailants attacked a police officer in Narayanganj, making off with a government-issued pistol. The event took place on Monday at the front of the city’s Mandalpara building, raising concerns over public safety in the area.
According to police sources, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lutfor Rahman, stationed at Shitalakshya Police Outpost under Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, was on patrol duty late Sunday night. He was accompanied by Constables Matiur Rahman and Faisal Hossain. Brandishing homemade firearms, the attackers assaulted him and forcibly took the ASI’s sidearm before fleeing the scene.
Immediate police action followed the theft. Officers launched a manhunt to locate the stolen weapon and apprehend the culprits. Despite these efforts, as of noon, the pistol has not yet been recovered, and no arrests have been made.
District Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman Munshi confirmed the incident, stating, “This morning, ASI Lutfor Rahman was attacked, and one of his government-issued pistols was stolen. We are actively pursuing leads to recover the weapon and bring those responsible to justice.”
