A tragic incident unfolded in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, 8 March, when a missile struck a residential building in the Al-Kharj Governorate, claiming the life of 38-year-old Bangladeshi expatriate Mosharaf Hossain from Tangail’s Sakhipur upazila. The Saudi Civil Defence Agency confirmed the attack via a post on X (formerly Twitter), providing official details of the strike.
Mosharaf, a resident of Kirtankhola Madhopara village in Gajaria Union, had been living in Saudi Arabia for almost eight years, seeking better employment opportunities. He had returned to Bangladesh two years ago for a short visit. Family sources report that he had been in contact with his eldest son, Mahim, via video call less than half an hour before the attack.
Mahim, aged 14, is a ninth-grade student at a local high school, while his younger brother, Mihan, aged seven, attends a local madrasa in the first grade. According to Mahim, during the video call at around 8:30 pm Bangladesh time, Mosharaf had advised him to purchase necessary clothes for Eid and promised to send money after Iftar. Tragically, the missile struck during Iftar, causing his sudden death.
Mosharaf’s wife, Kaberi Akter, expressed her grief, saying, “I spoke to him for the last time at 7 pm yesterday. How will I manage these two children alone now? Who will look after us?” His father, Sujat Ali, also mourned, stating, “I will never see my son again. At least bring his body back to the country so I can see him one last time.” He has appealed to the government for urgent repatriation.
On Monday morning, 9 March, at approximately 10:30 am, Abdullah Al Roni, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sakhipur, visited Mosharaf’s home to console the bereaved family. He assured that constant communication is being maintained with the relevant authorities and that all necessary steps are being taken to bring the body back to Bangladesh. He also confirmed that the government would provide full support to the family in this hour of crisis.
