Expressing grave concern over the increasing incidents of harassment and abuse against women, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called on the government to take decisive action against perpetrators.
In a statement issued today, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir strongly condemned the surge in violence targeting women, including harassment in educational institutions and public spaces.
“I urge the government to restore justice and peace in the country by taking firm action against all forms of lawlessness, especially violence against women,” Fakhrul said.
He highlighted the vital role women play in the nation’s development, working alongside men in all sectors. However, he lamented that many, including students and workers, are being subjected to harassment and abuse, with little accountability for offenders.
Fakhrul claimed that perpetrators are becoming increasingly emboldened due to the lack of justice and a prevailing culture of impunity.
“We are deeply concerned by the alarming rise in harassment against women on the streets and in educational institutions. This cannot continue,” he said.
He also stressed that protecting women’s dignity and ensuring their constitutionally recognized rights is a collective moral responsibility.
The BNP leader further noted that public anxiety over safety issues is growing, urging both the government and citizens to take responsibility in addressing the crisis.
“We strongly condemn these acts and call on everyone to play their part in ensuring justice and security for women,” Fakhrul asserted.
