After nearly eight months of closure due to continuous financial losses, Madhuban Cineplex, one of Bogura’s most modern cinemas, is set to reopen this Eid ul-Fitr. The revival will be marked by the screening of the eagerly awaited Shakib Khan-starrer ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’. During its hiatus, the cineplex had briefly been repurposed as a community centre, but now it returns to its primary cinematic role.

RM Yunus Rubel, owner of Madhuban Cineplex, explained that months of persistent losses had left them with no choice but to shut the doors temporarily. “This cinema is more than a business; it is part of our family’s heritage,” Rubel remarked. “To sustain a cineplex, quality films are essential. We awaited a supportive government that could promote both domestic and international cinema. We hope the new administration will help cinema owners like us thrive again.”

The reopening comes against the backdrop of a dramatic decline in Bogura’s cinema infrastructure. Just a decade ago, the district boasted 38 active theatres, but that number has dwindled to only 7, with 31 theatres demolished or permanently closed. The dwindling number of cinemas has been attributed largely to financial challenges, outdated facilities, and reduced audience turnout.

Local film enthusiasts have welcomed Madhuban Cineplex’s reopening as a major cultural boost. The cineplex has long been a hub for Bogura’s moviegoers, offering access to both national blockbusters and international films. Rubel emphasised the importance of preserving this space not just for entertainment but as a centre of cinematic culture.

With the screening of Shakib Khan’s latest film, Madhuban aims to reignite public interest and draw audiences back to theatres. The reopening is expected to contribute positively to the local economy, attract film-related events, and rejuvenate Bogura’s dwindling cinematic landscape.

In essence, Madhuban Cineplex’s return represents both cultural revival and economic optimism, offering a renewed platform for filmmakers and audiences alike in Bogura.
