A new wave of British musical talent, spearheaded by singers Olivia Dean and Lola Young, has propelled the UK recorded music market past the £1.5 billion mark in annual revenue for the first time, according to industry figures.

The continued success of Brit and Grammy award-winning artists, combined with the rise of emerging stars such as Skye Newman, Sienna Spiro and rapper EsDeeKid, helped the sector record its 11th consecutive year of growth in 2025.

The British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the UK’s trade body for recorded music, reported that total revenue increased by 5% year-on-year, reaching a record £1.57 billion. This surge reflects the resilience and adaptability of the UK music industry in an era dominated by streaming and digital consumption.

The revenue encompasses multiple streams, including paid streaming subscriptions, physical album and single sales, digital downloads, licensing of music for television and other visual media, and public performances of recorded tracks. Experts attribute the market’s growth not only to high-profile releases but also to the wider diversification of revenue sources.

Commenting on the figures, a BPI spokesperson said: “The UK music industry is thriving thanks to the creativity of new artists and the global reach of British music. Olivia Dean and Lola Young, alongside other emerging talents, are helping to sustain this momentum and introduce UK music to audiences worldwide.”

The robust growth also highlights the growing international appetite for British music, boosted by digital platforms that make content accessible globally. With continued innovation, expanding streaming audiences, and strong emerging talent, the UK recorded music industry is well-positioned for further growth in the coming years.

Overall, 2025 marks a milestone year in UK music history, demonstrating how a combination of established stars, rising talent, and diversified revenue streams can drive unprecedented success in a competitive global market.
