Police in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila have recovered the decomposing body of a 65-year-old woman from a location adjacent to her home in Satpar Bedbhita village. The discovery was made on Monday morning, ending a agonizing three-day search after she vanished without a trace under mysterious circumstances.
The victim, identified as Pari Rani Hazra, had been missing since Friday. Family members were alerted to the scene around 8:30 AM when an unbearable foul odour began emanating from a dense jute field running alongside the roadside directly in front of their home. Upon investigating the source of the stench, relatives found her lifeless body hidden amongst the crops.
The deceased’s son, Mrinal Hazra, firmly believes his mother fell victim to a violent assault motivated by robbery. He revealed that she was routinely wearing valuable gold ornaments in her ears and nose prior to her disappearance. When her remains were uncovered, all items of jewellery had been forcibly removed. According to him, assailants murdered his mother, looted her valuables, and dumped her body in the nearby vegetation to conceal the crime.
News of the tragic finding spread rapidly through Satpar Bedbhita, drawing alarmed local residents to the scene and triggering widespread concerns over rural security.
A team from the local police outpost arrived shortly after being notified by the victim’s family to secure the immediate area, gather forensic evidence, and complete the official inquest. Inspector (Investigation) Sirajul Islam of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station confirmed the retrieval of the body and noted that no arrests have yet been made.
The body was subsequently transferred to the morgue at the Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Senior officers emphasized that the precise cause and timing of death will only be conclusively determined once the pathology reports are finalized. In the meantime, law enforcement authorities have initiated a formal inquiry to piece together the victim’s final movements and identify those responsible.
