Assailants have hacked to death an 18-year-old woman, Ivy Akter, inside her family home in Madaripur before fleeing with her iPhone. The brutal attack occurred on Tuesday evening, 8 September, in the Kalikapur area under Madaripur Sadar Upazila, triggering shock and panic across the local community.
The victim, daughter of Aslam Sharif from Kalikapur, was married approximately a year ago to Md Ferdous, a resident of Shariatpur town currently employed in Qatar. Due to financial hardship during her childhood, Ivy was raised in the household of her paternal uncle, Kalam Sharif. Following her marriage, her husband departed for Qatar to secure better financial prospects, prompting Ivy to visit and stay at her uncle’s residence in Kalikapur.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday evening when the residence was temporarily left unguarded. Her uncle, Kalam Sharif, had stepped out to attend evening prayers at a local mosque, while other family members had travelled to Madaripur town to seek medical treatment. Taking advantage of the empty house, intruders broke into the premises. Upon returning from the mosque, Kalam Sharif discovered his niece lying motionless in a pool of blood on the floor. His cries for help alerted neighbors, who immediately summoned the local police.
Officers dispatched to the scene retrieved the body and sent it to Madaripur 250-Bed District Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary police enquiries suggest the perpetrators may have entered the residence to steal Ivy’s high-value iPhone. Investigating officers suspect that when the teenager recognized the intruders or attempted to resist the robbery, the assailants fatally attacked her with sharp weapons before fleeing with the device.
Distraught by the loss, Kalam Sharif demanded immediate justice, urging law enforcement agencies to apprehend those responsible without delay.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, Abul Kalam Azad, stated that the victim sustained multiple sharp-weapon injuries across her body. He added that investigators are probing all potential motives, examining whether the crime stemmed from a robbery gone wrong or an underlying personal or family dispute. While no arrests have been made so far, police operations and forensic enquiries remain underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
