The discovery occurred at approximately 11:00 pm on Tuesday, 8 September, directly opposite the Forest Office in the Nutan Bazar area. Conservancy workers employed by the Barishal City Corporation encountered the remains wrapped and discarded amongst municipal waste while conducting routine nighttime refuse collection. Upon spotting the bodies, the workers immediately halted their operations and notified local authorities.

Officers from the Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station responded swiftly to the scene, cordoning off the area and securing the remains before transferring them to the morgue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Medical examiners at the facility will conduct forensic tests to establish the precise cause of death, the infants’ gender, and whether they were stillborn or abandoned alive in the cold.

Investigating officers are examining whether the newborns were abandoned at the site shortly after birth or brought from another location under cover of darkness to evade law enforcement or social scrutiny. Detectives are also scanning surveillance footage from surrounding businesses and residential premises in Nutan Bazar to track movement around the refuse point during the hours leading up to the discovery.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station, Md Al-Mamun Ul Islam, stated that multiple police units are actively investigating the case. He added that determining the identity of the parents and apprehending those responsible for leaving the infants in such a manner remain the primary focus of the enquiry.

The gruesome discovery has caused deep shock and grief among local residents, many of whom gathered at the scene as news spread through the neighbourhood. Outraged community members condemned the act as a horrific display of moral decay, calling on law enforcement agencies to ensure a swift and thorough investigation. Formal legal proceedings remain underway as authorities await the preliminary autopsy findings.
