The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 for the country’s four seaports, citing unstable atmospheric conditions and the likelihood of intensified rainfall. According to the department, heavy to very heavy precipitation is expected on Tuesday across four divisions, including Dhaka.
Since early morning, the capital has remained overcast, with intermittent rainfall already recorded. Meteorological officials indicate that showers may continue at intervals throughout the day, although the sky could gradually clear as the afternoon progresses.
Rainfall activity began across various parts of the country on Sunday, ending a prolonged spell of heat. Prior to this, a heatwave persisted for nearly a week, affecting most regions, including the capital. The situation had significantly disrupted daily life, compounded by load-shedding in several areas. However, rainfall since Sunday has contributed to a noticeable decline in temperature levels. On that day alone, 41 millimetres of rain was recorded.
Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa stated that deep convective cloud formations have developed over the region. These types of clouds increase variations in atmospheric pressure, prompting the issuance of Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 at the seaports. The affected ports include Chattogram Port, Cox’s Bazar Port, Mongla Port, and Payra Port.
The department’s day forecast further indicates that parts of Dhaka, Mymensingh Division, Chattogram Division, and Sylhet Division may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. In meteorological terms, rainfall between 44 mm and 88 mm within 24 hours is classified as heavy, while totals exceeding 88 mm are considered very heavy.
As of 11:30 a.m., steady rainfall continued in Dhaka, reflecting the ongoing weather pattern. Meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam reported that 8 mm of rain was recorded in the capital overnight, with an additional 1 mm measured between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
