A 25-year-old madrasa teacher has been taken into police custody in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, following serious allegations of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male student.
The suspect, identified as Mohammad Abdullah, was apprehended by local residents on Wednesday afternoon at the Tanjilul Quran Pre-Cadet Madrasa, located in the Kadamtali Nayapara area under Ward 7 of the Narayanganj City Corporation. Following his detention by the community, he was promptly handed over to law enforcement personnel. Abdullah, the son of Md Liton Miah, hails from the Shantingar area in Tangail’s Nagarpur upazila and serves as an instructor at the religious learning institution.
According to details outlined in the formal complaint, the alleged assault occurred on Tuesday night. Taking advantage of a moment when the young student was left unattended at his residence, the teacher reportedly subjected the child to sexual abuse. Relatives further alleged that the instructor explicitly threatened the boy with physical violence and harm should he disclose the ordeal to anyone.
Traumatised by the encounter, the 12-year-old eventually confided in his mother on Wednesday afternoon, detailing the evening’s events. As news of the alleged assault spread rapidly through the Nayapara neighborhood, aggrieved local residents marched to the madrasa compound. They confronted Abdullah, restrained him on the premises, and immediately contacted the local police station.
Upon receiving the emergency alert, a patrol unit from the Siddhirganj Police Station arrived at the scene to secure the suspect and disperse the gathering crowd, preventing any potential escalation or mob violence.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, Mohammad Emdadul Haq, confirmed the detention, stating that the teacher was taken into official custody directly from the madrasa grounds based on the family’s accusations. He added that the victim’s guardians are preparing formal written charges, and the process of registering a regular case under the relevant legal provisions governing child protection and sexual offences is currently underway. The child is expected to undergo mandatory medical examinations as part of the formal investigative procedure.
