Peshawar Zalmi have secured their first Pakistan Super League (PSL) title in nine years, following a dominant performance against Hyderabad Kings in the final held in Lahore. The victory was underpinned by an exceptional bowling display from Bangladeshi fast bowler Nahid Rana and a match-winning all-round contribution from Australia’s Aaron Hardie. Peshawar chased down a modest target of 130 runs with five wickets and 29 balls to spare.
Nahid Rana, recruited by Peshawar Zalmi for his raw pace and wicket-taking ability, justified his selection on the grandest stage. He finished his four-over spell with figures of 2 for 22, maintaining significant pressure on the Hyderabad batters throughout the innings.
Rana was introduced into the attack during the sixth over. At that stage, Hyderabad had reached 56 runs despite losing two wickets. While his opening over conceded 13 runs, the momentum shifted quickly in the following over delivered by Sufiyan Muqeem, who dismissed both Usman Khan and Irfan Khan within the space of four deliveries.
In his second over, Rana struck a decisive blow by dismissing Australian star Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck. Maxwell attempted to pull a short delivery but succeeded only in finding the fielder at mid-on. The pressure intensified later in the same over when Kusal Perera was run out, leaving Hyderabad reeling at 73 for 6. Rana conceded just five runs in this pivotal over.
Returning for his third over in the 14th, Rana delivered a maiden wicket over. His extreme pace proved insurmountable for the lower order, culminating in the dismissal of Hunain Shah, who was bowled by a delivery that breached his defence. Rana concluded his evening by conceding only four runs in the 17th over.
In response, Peshawar Zalmi faced an early scare, collapsing to 40 for 4. However, the match was decided by an 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Aaron Hardie and Abdul Samad.
Samad played a brisk innings of 48 runs from 34 balls before his dismissal. Hardie remained at the crease to see his side home, finishing unbeaten on 56 from 39 deliveries. This batting performance complemented Hardie’s earlier success with the ball, where he claimed 4 wickets for 27 runs, effectively dismantling the Hyderabad top and middle order.
