The Legends of Rupganj opening batsman, Habibur Rahman Sohan, has equalled the record for the fastest half-century in the history of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL). The significant sporting milestone was achieved on Tuesday afternoon, 2 June 2026, during a high-scoring domestic encounter against Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the Motijheel commercial area of Mirpur, Dhaka.
Facing a formidable bowling line-up, the 26-year-old right-handed opening batsman executed a highly aggressive batting strategy, reaching the 50-run milestone from exactly 15 legal deliveries. With this explosive performance, Habibur successfully matched the long-standing List A cricket record previously established by fellow national cricketer Parvez Hossain Emon.
Habibur launched an uncompromising assault against the opposition’s front-line bowling attack. He displayed his most destructive form in the opening stages of the innings, targeting established international bowlers within the domestic circuit.
In his first over against prominent national pace bowler Taskin Ahmed, Habibur extracted 25 runs, hitting two boundaries and two sixes. He further intensified his aggressive approach during the fifth over of the match, dismantling the bowling of pace bowler Nahid Rana by accumulating 26 runs in a single over.
The sequence against Rana included three expansive sixes over the boundaries alongside two well-timed fours. Habibur eventually completed his record-equalling half-century by striking a boundary off the bowling of veteran national left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.
Despite establishing a new benchmark for domestic batting speed, the opening batsman was unable to sustain his presence at the crease for an extended duration. He was eventually dismissed after constructing a rapid innings of 59 runs from 27 deliveries. His total individual contribution at the crease included 6 boundaries and 5 sixes, finishing with an exceptional strike rate of 218.52.
The 15-ball half-century benchmark was originally set during the previous domestic season by opening batsman Parvez Hossain Emon whilst representing traditional powerhouse Abahani Limited. Parvez had achieved the feat against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) grounds, breaking the previous record.
Prior to Parvez’s performance, the domestic record for the fastest fifty had been held for a six-year duration by experienced all-rounder Farhad Reza. In 2019, whilst playing for Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Farhad had secured an 18-ball half-century against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. Habibur himself had previously matched Farhad’s 18-ball mark during a separate domestic fixture in the Bangladesh Cricket League’s List A format before eclipsing his own personal best on Tuesday.
Despite Habibur’s individual brilliance at the top of the order, his explosive opening contribution proved insufficient to secure a competitive victory for Legends of Rupganj. Chasing a demanding target of 340 runs set by Mohammedan Sporting Club in the first innings, the Rupganj batting line-up collapsed, failing to build partnerships. The team was eventually bowled out for 232 runs in 34 overs.
Mohammedan Sporting Club secured a comprehensive 107-run victory, allowing them to retain their position at the top of the league table. The match was defined by a century from Mohammedan captain Towhid Hridoy, who scored 101 runs from 106 balls. Additional steadying contributions came from opening batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy, who made 71 runs, and middle-order batsman Afif Hossain, who scored 70 runs from 70 deliveries.
