Police Sub-Inspector Injured in Drug Suspect Confrontation

In a harrowing incident in Jhalkathi, a police Sub-Inspector (SI) sustained injuries while attempting to apprehend a local drug trafficker. The episode unfolded on Tuesday, 24 February, in the Checherirampur area of Kathalia Upazila.

The injured officer has been identified as Ratan Chandra Hawladar, serving at the Kathalia Police Station. The suspect, Sujon Hawladar, aged 30, is the son of Sobahan Hawladar, a resident of Checherirampur Union.

According to reports, a police team was conducting a targeted operation against narcotics trafficking when Sujon was detained on suspicion of involvement in illegal drug activities. During the arrest attempt, the suspect allegedly bit SI Ratan Chandra Hawladar in a desperate bid to escape. The officer received prompt medical attention at a local hospital.

Following the altercation, authorities successfully seized eight pieces of yaba tablets from the suspect and formally arrested him.

OC Abu Nasir Raihan of Kathalia Police Station confirmed that legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act have been initiated against Sujon Hawladar. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of his involvement in local drug networks.
