Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy is set to deliver an intimate live performance in Lancaster later this spring, offering fans a rare opportunity to experience his music in an acoustic setting. The Rathcoole-born artist will take to the stage at Lancaster Town Hall on Saturday, 28 March, for a special evening that will combine stripped-back renditions of his songs with an audience question-and-answer session.
The event, presented by Jacaranda Records, comes in celebration of Kennedy’s forthcoming album, The Weight of the Woods, scheduled for release on Friday, 27 March. The timing ensures that concertgoers in Lancaster will be among the first to hear material from the new record performed live, albeit in a more personal and reflective format than his usual full-band shows.
Tickets for the performance go on sale on Wednesday, 25 February, via Skiddle. Given Kennedy’s substantial following and history of sold-out tours across the UK and Ireland, strong demand is anticipated.
Kennedy, who commands an Instagram following of more than 1.1 million, has built his reputation on an evocative vocal style that merges acoustic folk sensibilities with subtle hip-hop and electronic influences. His journey to mainstream recognition was shaped by years of busking on the streets of Dublin and studying music intensively, honing both his songwriting craft and his unmistakable, soulful delivery.
His breakthrough arrived with a succession of powerful singles that resonated widely with audiences. Among them were Power Over Me and Outnumbered, the latter securing a place in the UK Top 10 and cementing his growing reputation as one of Ireland’s most compelling contemporary artists.
Kennedy’s 2019 debut album, Without Fear, proved a landmark release. It topped the Irish Albums Chart and performed strongly in the UK, affirming his transition from promising newcomer to chart-topping act. The following year, he expanded his reach further through Paradise, a collaboration with the Italian production trio Meduza, which climbed into the UK Top 5.
Below is a summary of key milestones in Kennedy’s career:
| Release / Song | Year | Notable Achievement |
|---|---|---|
| Power Over Me | 2018 | International breakthrough single |
| Outnumbered | 2019 | UK Top 10 hit |
| Without Fear (Album) | 2019 | Chart-topping debut album |
| Paradise (with Meduza) | 2020 | UK Top 5 single |
| The Weight of the Woods | 2026 | New studio album release |
The Lancaster concert promises a more personal encounter with the artist. Acoustic performances often reveal fresh dimensions to Kennedy’s songwriting, allowing lyrics and melody to take centre stage without elaborate production. The addition of a live Q&A segment will provide further insight into his creative process, inspirations, and the themes underpinning his new album.
For Lancaster’s music enthusiasts, the evening represents not only a significant cultural event for the city but also a rare chance to witness one of Ireland’s most celebrated contemporary musicians in an unusually close and conversational setting.
