Colourful Parade Marks Independence Day Celebrations

Today, 26 March 2026, the nation commemorated its Independence and National Day with a grand parade and aerial flypast at the National Parade Square, commencing at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony was graced by the presence of President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.

The event attracted senior officials from across the country, including the chiefs of the three armed forces, members of the cabinet, top government officials, and foreign dignitaries. According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the parade is open to the public, with gates 2, 3, 4, 10, and 11 designated for entry. Visitors have been advised not to carry bags.

Earlier in the morning, at 6:00 a.m., both the President and the Prime Minister paid homage to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. They observed a moment of silence, standing in solemn respect for the nation’s heroes. The ceremony featured a smartly coordinated guard of honour by personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, followed by the Prime Minister and cabinet members paying their respects.

The Independence Day parade is organised under the guidance of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, supervised by the Armed Forces Division, and executed by the Ninth Infantry Division at the National Parade Square. This year’s event marks the revival of the parade and flypast after an 18-year hiatus since 2008, symbolising the nation’s enduring pride and historical legacy.
