Dolonchapa Express Derails at Setabganj

A railway disruption occurred in northern Bangladesh on Sunday morning when a carriage of the Dolonchapa Express derailed at Setabganj Railway Station in Bochaganj Upazila, Dinajpur. The incident took place at approximately 8:13am, causing temporary operational adjustments at the station while recovery efforts were swiftly initiated.

According to railway officials, the intercity service travelling from Panchagarh to Santahar entered Platform 1 of Setabganj Station when two wheels of the “C” marked coach left the tracks. The derailment was confined to a single coach, and no casualties or injuries were immediately reported. Authorities confirmed that train movement through the station was not fully suspended, as operations continued via Platform 2 to maintain service continuity.

Station Master Majnur Rahman stated that the affected carriage was promptly identified and isolated from the rest of the train. He added that, in consideration of passenger convenience and operational efficiency, the remaining coaches were expected to continue their onward journey towards Santahar after necessary safety checks and adjustments. A recovery team was deployed immediately to restore normal track conditions.

Railway officials from the broader Dinajpur region also monitored the situation. Station Superintendent A B M Ziaur Rahman confirmed that while the Dolonchapa Express had experienced a derailment at Setabganj, train movement through the alternative line remained unaffected. He further noted that other intercity services, including the Ekota Express travelling from Panchagarh towards Dhaka, passed through the corridor on schedule without disruption earlier in the morning.

Preliminary indications suggest that the derailment was limited in scale, though a formal investigation is expected to determine the precise cause. Such incidents are typically examined for potential issues relating to track conditions, wheel maintenance, or signalling alignment.

Railway authorities have assured passengers that efforts are underway to restore full normalcy at the station. While minor delays may have occurred during the initial response phase, services along the corridor are expected to stabilise once clearance operations are completed.
