Elderly Man Beaten to Death Over Debt

A 69-year-old man has allegedly been beaten to death in a rural area of Bogura following a dispute over an unpaid debt, prompting a murder case against twelve স্থানীয় residents. The ঘটনায় has stirred concern among স্থানীয় people about rising violence linked to financial disagreements.

The নিহত, Matiur Rahman, was a resident of Sharif Sughata village under Sughata ইউনিয়ন in Sherpur upazila. According to the মামলা filed on Sunday, 29 March, by his son Shafiqul Islam, the fatal হামলা took place nearly a week earlier, on 22 March সকাল around 11:00 am.

According to the অভিযোগ outlined in the First Information Report (FIR), Matiur Rahman went to the home of one of the accused, Belal Hossain, to demand repayment of money owed to him. An argument reportedly ensued, which quickly escalated into violence. স্থানীয় witnesses and family members allege that a group of individuals attacked him with metal rods, inflicting গুরুতর injuries. His হাত and পা were reportedly broken during the assault.

স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা rushed to the scene and rescued the গুরুতর আহত man, first taking him to Sherpur উপজেলা Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura শহর, where he remained under চিকিৎসা for several days.

Despite চিকিৎসকদের efforts, Matiur Rahman succumbed to his injuries on the afternoon of 28 March.

Police officials have confirmed that all the accused are currently absconding. The Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Police Station stated that the victim’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and law enforcement agencies are actively conducting অভিযান to apprehend those involved.

Authorities have assured that the suspects will be brought to justice promptly, while স্থানীয় residents have called for swift legal action to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
