Four Arrested in Munshiganj Including Notorious Gangster Lalu

In a major law enforcement operation, Sajedul Islam Lalu, a notorious gangster and accused in multiple murder cases, along with three of his associates, was apprehended in Gozaria, Munshiganj on Wednesday night, 17 December. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in curbing violent crime in the region.

The operation was conducted across several strategic locations, including Hatirjheel in Dhaka, Siddhirganj in Narayanganj, and Kanchpur Balu Field under Sonargaon Police Station, where the fugitives were tracked down after days of surveillance.

OC of Gozaria Police Station, Mr. Hasan Ali, confirmed the news, stating:
“Lalu is a resident of Hoglakandi village in Imampur Union, Gozaria. He is implicated in a total of 23 criminal cases, including murder and armed robbery. Notably, he is named in high-profile cases such as the killings of Mannan, Hridoy Bagh, and Zahidul Islam Joy.”

In addition, three other individuals linked to the Zahidul Islam Joy murder case were also arrested:

  • Alaudin (65) – father
  • Shakil (23) – son
  • Jasim (45) – brother

These three are residents of Choddokahnia village, Bausia Union, and are now facing legal proceedings.

Mr. Hasan Ali added, “These arrests are expected to significantly reduce criminal activities and restore a sense of security among the local population. Lalu and his associates have long terrorised Gozaria and surrounding areas.”

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that all four detainees are currently in custody, and necessary legal actions will be swiftly undertaken. The local community has expressed relief and welcomed the operation, viewing it as a decisive step towards ending a long-standing reign of terror.

With these arrests, Munshiganj police hope to dismantle the network behind several violent crimes that have plagued the district, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining law and order.
