A tragic and mysterious incident has gripped the community of Ukhiya in Cox's Bazar, following the sudden death of a local woman whose husband works abroad in Malaysia.
The deceased, 28-year-old Lala Bibi, wife of expatriate Abdul Shukkur, was found dead at her residence in the East Morichya Madhughona Kalar Pahar area, Ward 1 of Holudiyapalong Union, on the night of 2 March. Family members estimate the incident occurred sometime between 10:00 PM and 3:00 AM.
According to relatives, Lala Bibi had spent the evening with her children, seven-year-old Abu Bakkar Siddiq and four-year-old Nur Fatema, after dinner. The children went to sleep in their usual routine. However, at approximately 4:35 AM on 3 March, her son woke to find his mother lying on the floor inside their home, covered in blood. He reportedly observed blood coming from her forehead, nose, and mouth. Alarmed, he immediately informed the neighbouring resident, Momtaz Begum, who called local villagers to the scene.
Police were notified through the local Union Parishad member. Officers from Ukhiya Police Station arrived promptly, conducted a preliminary examination, and prepared a formal report of the scene. The body was subsequently sent to the morgue at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Speaking on the matter, Nur Ahmad, Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station, described the case as “extremely sensitive.” He emphasised that the precise cause of death remains unclear, pending the post-mortem report. “Once the report is available, we will be able to confirm the cause. The investigation is ongoing, and if anyone is found involved, legal action will be taken,” he stated.
The sudden and unexplained nature of Lala Bibi’s death has left the local community in shock, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation.
