NCP Leader Beaten by Furious Mob After Alleged Murder at Hatchery in Cox’s Bazar

A disturbing turn of events unfolded in Khurushkul, Cox’s Bazar, late Sunday night (4 May), when a man named Ali Akbar (aged 40) lost his life following an alleged assault at a local hatchery named “Allawala”. In the aftermath, an angry mob turned on Raiyan Kashem, the son of the hatchery owner and organiser of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in Cox’s Bazar, leaving him injured.

🔍 What Sparked the Violence?

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, Ali Akbar was accused of stealing fish from the hatchery. He was allegedly detained and brutally assaulted by hatchery personnel, which led to severe injuries resulting in his death. The situation reached boiling point when his body was recovered around 1:00 AM, igniting public outrage.

A group of enraged locals stormed the hatchery, focusing their fury on Raiyan Kashem, the owner’s son. In a desperate bid for safety, Raiyan jumped into a hatchery pond, but the crowd pursued and beat him there as well.

🏥 Medical & Legal Response

Police arrived just in time to rescue Raiyan Kashem from further harm. He was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment and placed under protective custody.

Raiyan Kashem is known as a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the NCP’s district organiser in Cox’s Bazar. He is also the son of former Islami Chhatra Shibir leader and current AB Party Central Vice Chairman Jahangir Kashem.

🛃 Statement from Police

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Elias Khan of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that:

“We have taken two individuals – Hossain and Mizan – into custody in connection with the incident. A full investigation is underway, and all responsible parties will be brought to justice.”

He added:

“Raiyan Kashem was removed from the site for his safety and sent to hospital under police escort.”

The body of Ali Akbar has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy as part of the formal procedure.

With tensions running high in the community, the authorities are walking a tightrope to ensure calm is restored and justice is served. Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests are expected.
