Narayanganj police have successfully recovered a pistol that was forcibly snatched from an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) during duty in the Nitaiganj area, 22 hours after the incident. The recovery operation was conducted late Monday night, around 2:45 am, at Wilson Road in the Rally Residential area of Bandar Upazila by combined teams of the district police and the Detective Branch (DB).

A key suspect, identified as Md. Mishal, alias Bishal (30), has been apprehended in connection with the theft. According to police reports, the recovered firearm included two magazines and sixteen rounds of ammunition.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mishal was presented at the Superintendent of Police’s office in Narayanganj along with the recovered pistol. During initial interrogation, he admitted that the weapon had been stolen with the intent to use it for criminal activities, specifically robbery.

The arrest followed a coordinated operation on Monday evening at 6:30 pm in Sonakanda, Baapari Para, Bandar Upazila, where police detained Mishal. He hails from the Deovog Water Tank area of the city and is the son of the late Mizanur Rahman. Authorities have described him as a professional criminal with a history of robberies.

According to police sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when three motorcycle-borne assailants attacked ASI Lutfor Rahman of Shitalakkhya Police Outpost while he was on duty in Nitaiganj. The attackers managed to snatch his loaded pistol and flee the scene. Immediate response by multiple units of the district police and DB led to Mishal’s capture later that day.

During a late-night raid, following directions provided by Mishal, police recovered the stolen pistol from a plastic bag wrapped in clothes, placed outside the residence of one Sharif Uddin in Wilson Road. In addition to the firearm, a machete, a knife, and a large dagger were seized.

Earlier on Monday night, ASI Lutfor Rahman had filed a robbery case at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station against unidentified assailants. Following the recovery of the weapon, an additional case under the Arms Act has been registered.

Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (K-Circle), Md. Hasinuzzaman, confirmed the details to the press, stating: “The stolen firearm has been successfully recovered. Mishal is a professional robber who stole the weapon to use it for criminal purposes. Two of his accomplices have also been apprehended.”
