In its latest military action, Iran has reportedly launched a combination of hypersonic and three other types of missiles in what has been identified as its 34th strike. The operation primarily targeted Israeli facilities and United States military installations across the Middle East, signalling a significant escalation in Tehran’s missile capabilities.
According to a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), cited by Iran’s semi-official news, the attack involved the coordinated use of advanced weaponry designed to overwhelm modern defence systems. Hypersonic missiles, capable of travelling at speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound, were among the arsenal deployed, alongside ballistic, cruise, and short-range missiles.
The reported targets of the strike included key strategic bases in the region. American personnel stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base near Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and at the Juffair base in Bahrain were specifically targeted. In Israel, the Ramot David Air Base and the civilian airport in Haifa were among the sites hit.
The IRGC’s statement also claimed that the missiles struck covert Israeli missile launcher positions located to the east of Tel Aviv, demonstrating Tehran’s ability to accurately target sensitive and well-defended locations. Analysts note that the combination of hypersonic and conventional missiles represents a new operational tactic aimed at both strategic deterrence and regional influence.
The following table summarises the key targets and missile types involved in the strike:
| Target Location | Country | Missile Types Deployed | Target Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al Dhafra Air Base | UAE | Hypersonic, Ballistic, Cruise, Short-range | US Military Base |
| Juffair Air Base | Bahrain | Hypersonic, Ballistic, Cruise, Short-range | US Military Base |
| Ramot David Air Base | Israel | Hypersonic, Ballistic, Cruise, Short-range | Israeli Military Base |
| Haifa Civilian Airport | Israel | Hypersonic, Ballistic, Cruise, Short-range | Civilian Airport |
Military experts have highlighted the significance of employing hypersonic missiles alongside conventional systems. The speed and manoeuvrability of hypersonic missiles make them extremely difficult to intercept, representing a considerable challenge for the air defence networks of both the United States and Israel.
Regional security analysts have warned that such strikes could further destabilise the already volatile Middle East, prompting Washington and Tel Aviv to consider both strategic countermeasures and diplomatic responses. The IRGC’s 34th strike demonstrates a clear intention to project military capability beyond Iran’s borders, signalling the potential for further escalations if tensions persist.
The attack, reported by Al Jazeera, underscores the growing role of advanced missile technology in regional power dynamics, raising concerns over the balance of power and the effectiveness of existing defence systems in the region.
