Sayedus Saleheen Suman, popularly known as Bassbaba Suman and the lead vocalist of the band Orthohin, has confirmed that his music will be featured in the upcoming film Andhar, directed by Raihan Rafi. Suman is widely known for not usually allowing his songs to be used in films. However, he previously made an exception for Banalata Express, released during Eid, where the song Chaittei Paro Tumi was included following a request from director Tanin Noor.
In Andhar, Suman has confirmed that the soundtrack will include both an earlier song and a newly recorded track performed by him. He has not provided further details regarding the compositions, stating that official information will be shared by the production team closer to the film’s release.
Alongside his musical contribution, Suman is also involved in the storytelling of Andhar. He co-wrote the film’s narrative with Shakib Chowdhury of the band Cryptic Fate and Adnan Adib Khan. He has described the film as a multi-genre work that brings together horror, thriller, action, detective elements, and comic relief within a single storyline. According to him, such a combination of genres has not previously been presented in Bangladeshi cinema in this form.
The story development process was influenced by an interest in supernatural themes and folklore. Suman and Shakib Chowdhury reportedly travelled across different regions of the country in search of ghost stories and local legends. These experiences later contributed to shaping the narrative structure of Andhar.
The film features a large ensemble cast, including Siam Ahmed, Nazifa Tushi, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, Gazi Rakayet, and Mostafa Monwar, among others. Filming for the project was completed last year. The film is expected to be released in cinemas within the current year, although an official release date has not yet been confirmed.
Following the release of Banalata Express, renewed attention has been given to the song Chaittei Paro Tumi. The track has gained audience engagement in cinemas, contributing to ongoing discussion around it. Bassbaba Suman has expressed satisfaction with the response, noting appreciation from both domestic and international audiences, and stating that he considers it a positive experience to be associated with the project.
He also explained that his involvement in Banalata Express was an exception to his usual reluctance regarding film music. According to him, the decision was influenced by his familiarity with director Tanin Noor’s earlier works, including the film Utsob and the web series Kaizer, both of which he has watched and appreciated.
