The violent encounter took place at around 8:00 pm on Friday, 28 August, in the Mizmiji Paglabari area under Ward 1 of the Narayanganj City Corporation.

The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Sifat, 26-year-old Raju, and 30-year-old Annie.

Eye-witnesses reported that the confrontation began near a traditional roadside cake stall operated by Sifat’s mother along the Mizmiji Paglabari canal bank. A heated altercation broke out in front of the stall between a local drug dealer, Shafiqul Islam, and members of an opposing group. Sensing escalating danger, Sifat, Raju, Annie, and several bystanders stepped in to de-escalate the situation and separate the rival factions. Their intervention temporarily defused the tension, prompting both groups to disperse.

The calm proved short-lived. Roughly half an hour later, Shafiqul Islam returned to the scene accompanied by his elder sister, Jannatul Ferdous Pari, his brother-in-law, Sohel, and an armed gang of five or six accomplices.

Seeking retribution for the earlier interference, the group launched an unprovoked assault on Sifat, Raju, and Annie. The gang severely beat the trio before drawing knives and inflicting multiple stab wounds.

Alarmed by the cries for help, local residents and passers-by rushed to the scene to assist the victims. Enraged by the violence, the crowd managed to corner the attackers and subjected them to a severe beating before police arrived.

The incident created widespread panic across the neighbourhood, prompting an immediate law enforcement response.

Confirming the incident, the Officer-in-Charge of Siddhirganj Police Station, Mohammad Emdadul Huq, stated that a police team led by Sub-Inspector Oliullah was dispatched to the scene shortly after receiving the report. Police have launched an investigation and are conducting drives to arrest all individuals involved in the attack.
