Two Friends Killed in Mirsarai Crash Returning Home on New Motorbike

A celebratory evening turned to tragedy in Mirsarai, Chattogram, as two teenage friends lost their lives in a road collision shortly after purchasing a new motorbike. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Friday, 28 August, in the Boro Takia market area along the Mirsarai National Special Economic Zone road.
The victims were identified as 19-year-old Talat Mahmud Shuvo and 19-year-old Abdullah Al-Omar. Both young men belonged to Moghadia Union within Mirsarai Upazila. Shuvo was the son of the late Aminul Islam from Miyapara village, while Omar was the son of expatriate Sheikh Farid from the neighbouring village of Fakirpara.
Close friends and colleagues, Shuvo and Omar managed to balance their academic pursuits with employment at a medical diagnostics laboratory in Abutorab market. Having saved up funds to buy a new vehicle, Shuvo accompanied Omar to Baraiyarhat market on Friday evening to finalize the purchase.
The fatal collision occurred as they rode the new motorcycle home along the Special Economic Zone access road. Eyewitnesses reported that a speeding lorry traveling in the opposite direction collided head-on with the motorcycle near the Boro Takia gate. The violent impact threw both riders onto the tarmac.
Shuvo died at the scene from severe trauma. Local residents and passers-by rushed to assist Omar, who sustained critical injuries, and arranged immediate transport to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Family members expressed deep shock at the sudden loss. Shuvo’s brother, Imam Hossain Farhad, and Omar’s maternal uncle, Saidul Islam Shaheen, recounted how the duo had set off in high spirits earlier that evening to collect the motorcycle, only for their journey to end in calamity before they reached home.
Police officers dispatched to the area initiated preliminary enquiries and secured the site. Confirming the incident, the Officer-in-Charge of Mirsarai Police Station, Farida Yasmin, stated that law enforcement forces were sent to both the collision site and the hospital area. Officers are compiling an inquest report and investigating the circumstances surrounding the lorry driver and the vehicle involved in the crash.
